Hybrid Learning: The Future of Edtech

While the pandemic facilitated the growth of the edtech industry, it caused serious damages to many others. So, it’s no wonder that Indian edtech companies like BYJU’S and others have been on an acquisition spree ever since, making huge investments.

Currently, The Indian edtech industry is valued at $2.8 billion. But, according to a report published by transaction advisory firm RBSA Advisors on April 28th, 2021, it is expected to become a $30 billion industry by 2032. The report also states that by 2022, online education offerings for classes from 1-12 will increase by sixfold. But as things settle down and schools slowly reopen, what’s the future of edtech?

The Hybrid Model of Learning

The hybrid model of learning refers to an education system where – the teacher delivers live instructions in the classroom as well as online. It includes live video-based learning, pre-recorded lectures, online exercises, etc.

Mukul Rustagi, co-founder and CEO of Classplus quoted,“ Offline learning will continue to happen in schools, but a hybrid model of learning will be the way forward. The digital revolution in education has been a long time coming, and the pandemic has just accelerated the process. With the Internet now readily available on mobile devices, students are finding a lot of value in the ease of access and affordability of online learning”. He further stated that zero geographical constraints benefit students from tier 2 and tier 3 cities by allowing them to access the best educators from anywhere across the globe. It also eliminates the teachers from being confined to their neighborhoods.

As per the National Education Policy, 2020, the Indian government is taking steps towards digitizing education by devising the development of online tools and teaching platforms, investing in digital infrastructure, training teachers to become quality content creators, and establishing standards for content and technology.

Educational experts are of the belief that teachers and students identify way too much value and convenience in online learning. The World Economic Forum recently reported that; the self-paced learning nature of these online educational platforms has resulted in enhancing a child’s ability to retain memory. With greater flexibility and effective teaching methods, the hybrid model is here to stay.
