THE 27 CLUB
27 Club is the club of those greats who weren’t able to live their success but rather lost out on everything due to multiple reasons with suicide and drug overdose comprising a good percentage of it. They didn’t have a lot of time but what they made out of it lasted lifetimes.
This is no iconic club but a point to remember for everyone else except those in the club. The word on the street is that if you are an artist of great influence and are at age of 27, then there is this high possibility that you are at risk.
There have been many exceptional artists walking down the aisle to fame and being a role model but not many get the blessing to live success. In fact, many were induced to the hall of fame post their death and thus only a very few who play the living God have lived the essence of life.
There are so many that have enlisted their name in this prestigious club but the ones we focus on are just four legends that will live on forever – – Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse
Jimi Hendrix (Nov 27, 1942 – Sept 18, 1970) – A legend that has never passed away, a career that spanned only 4 years but the music still resonates today while being regarded as one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He rose and stayed there at the helm only to leave behind his spirit after choking on his own vomit and dying of asphyxia while intoxicated with barbiturates.
Jim Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971) – Another legacy filled legend, whose music and poems are still played across the world. He can easily be named as the face of the genre Rock. He co-founded ‘The Doors’, leading them to top the charts across the United States while also having an image of a rebel. Finally found dead in the bathtub due to pronounced heart failure.
Kurt Cobain (February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994) – Kurt would have been the voice even today if he hadn’t given up. Created the iconic music band Nirvana, being the lead guitarist, song writer and the front man of the band, but towards the end of his life, he had become an addict to heroin and lived a depressed life. Due to which he finally took his own life using a shot gun on the head. There even was a speculation that he took his own life to be part of the club 27.
Amy Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) – Amy rose to heights in a small period of time with having international bestsellers, but again at a time when people started disbelieving the 27 club, she became a victim of alcohol poisoning.
There are so many artists that have their name on the 27 club, be it musicians or actors and It is unfortunate. However, these legends and their legacy should always live on with us passed down through generations.
