How to Become an Officer in the Defence Forces After 12th (10+2)

NDA (National Defence Academy)

Through NDA, the candidates are recruited to be trained as officers for the Indian Air Force, Navy, and Army. Application forms have to be submitted by December (for NDA I) and by June (for NDA II).  The exams are conducted twice a year, April and September of each year.

Eligibility for Indian Army:  The candidates must have completed the 12th (10+2 pattern) or its equivalent exam from a well-recognized board. The candidates who are appearing/have appeared for 10+2 can also apply.

Eligibility for Indian Navy and Air Force: Those seeking admission for Indian Navy and Air Force must have passed their 12th/appearing (10+2 pattern) from a recognized board or University with Physics and Mathematics as a compulsory subject.

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible for the NDA examination. Girls are not allowed for the NDA entrance examination.

Age:  You should not be less than 16.5 years at the time of joining the service (course) and not more than 19.5 at the time of joining the course. The course at NDA Khadakwasla commences in January & July. The DOB mentioned in the Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examination Certificate available or an equivalent certificate will be considered by the commission.

Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically & mentally fit as per the physical standards maintained by the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination 2021.

Duration of Training:  3+1 (3 years at Khadakwasla and 1 year at AFA, IMA, INA as per your choice of service.

(Technical Entry Scheme)-Indian Army

You can apply after passing your 12th Exams. Minimum aggregate of 70% is mandatory in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You will be detailed for SSB interview based on the cut off as decided by Recruiting Directorate.

When to Apply:  Look out for the advertisement published in leading newspapers/employment news in May/Oct every year.

Duration of Details of the Training: 5 years. Basic Military Training: 1 year (Officer Training Academy Gaya). Technical Training: Technical Training will be conducted in two phases: Phase-I: Pre‑commission Training for 3 Years at any of the three CTWs (Cadet Training Wings i.e. CME Pune, MCTE Mhow and MCEME Secunderabad). Phase-II: Post Commission Training for 1 year at CME Pune, MCTE Mhow and MCEME Secunderabad.

 The candidates will be awarded an Engineering degree after successful completion of training.

Remuneration:  The candidates will be given a stipend of Rs. 21,000/- p.m. (Rs 15,600/- as pay in Pay Band plus Grade Pay of Rs. 5,400/-) as is admissible to NDA cadets on completion of 3 years training. On completion of 4 Years of training, they will be commissioned in the rank of Lieutenant and entitled to pay as admissible to the rank.

NAVY B. Tech Entry

You can join the Indian Navy for a 4-year degree course 10+2 (B.Tech) Cadet Entry Scheme (Permanent Commission) commencing from July 2021.

Unmarried Male Candidates (fulfilling the conditions of nationality as laid down by the Govt. of India) can apply for Indian Navy 10+2 B.Tech Cadet Entry Scheme on official website of Indian Navy (joinindiannavy.gov.in) from 29 January 2021.

Last date for Indian Navy Online Application is 09 February 2021.

Eligibility: Passed Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 Pattern) or its equivalent examinations from any Board with at least 70% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM – Passing in each subject mandatory) and at least 50% marks in English (either in Class X or Class XII) Candidates who have appeared for JEE (Main) exam. Call up for Service Selection Board (SSB) will be issued on basis of JEE (Main) All India Rank.

Age: Not be less than 16.5 years at the time of joining the service (course) and not more than 19.5 at the time of joining the course.

Duration:  4 year at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerela
